Correction Officer Protest

Hundreds of corrections officers from across New York rallied outside the state Capitol during March amid an ongoing strike over working conditions in state prisons.

Legislative Leaders Rally Protesters

The corrections officers, their family members and allied lawmakers demanded better working conditions inside state prisons and a legislative repeal of the HALT Act, a 2022 law that limits the use of solitary confinement for prisoners.

As the protest continued, a smaller group of counter protesters from Jails Justice Network stood a few feet away from the rally. “We’re talking about a system that people should be putting love at,” said Rory Smalls.

Geodome

Growing Spaces, established in 1989, adapted the dome’s rounded shape to create a wind-resistant, energy-efficient wooden unit topped by translucent polycarbonate panels that block 35% of light as protection from ultraviolet radiation.

Castellano and Moss

Harold Castellano and Joe’l Moss add clay ollas in the dome to slow irrigation, allowing water to seep gradually into the soil around plant roots.
